Packing for the hospital

Early on you will want to start thinking about what you should take to the hospital. As you get closer to the end of your third trimester you’re not going to feel like shopping or putting a bag together, so it’s best to get it done early. Having your hospital bag packed and set aside will make it easy not to forget anything. It’s a good idea to bring things that will make it feel a little more like home and less like the hospital, the idea is to be comfortable and at ease. Keep in mind you won't have a ton of space so try not to pack too much.

Here are a few ideas of what you may want to bring

  • Health Insurance card
  • A night gown or oversize t-shirt (but let’s be real the longer labor goes on the less clothes you’ll want on)
  •  Slippers or none slip socks, in case you want to walk around
  • underwear in case you bleed through (dark colors are best)
  • nursing bras
  • Music, something you find relaxing
  •  Lip balm lips can become dry and chafed during labor, hair tie or headband
  • Toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, hairbrush, deodorant
  •  Heat packs
  •  Money for the vending machine
  • Cell phone charger, if you plan on taking photos with your phone you don't want to forget this
  • Camera

Don't forget for the baby you will need

  • Car seat (make sure you know how to properly, 80% of parents don't!)
  • coming home outfit
  • blanket
  • diaper bag
